From 1.5 pallets a day to 27 million m² a year: Grupa Końskie as a Polish manufacturer on a European scale
STARGRES rarely appears in circulation as a standalone brand. Behind it stands Grupa Końskie — one of the larger Polish production organisms in the ceramics industry and, by its own account, the largest Polish exporter in this segment. Its history is a textbook example of the road from a local workshop to a manufacturer present on many markets.
Scale that makes a difference in contracts
The starting point was the first plant, launched in 1989 — a small works producing around one and a half pallets of tiles a day. Today the plants of Grupa Końskie produce over 27 million m² of ceramic tiles a year. This scale translates directly into serving large developments: hotels, shopping centres, office buildings and public buildings, where consistency of batch, colour repeatability between deliveries and on-time shipment of thousands of square metres of a single pattern are what count. A local manufacturer with facilities of this size also reduces the risk of stoppages on site — and in a fit-out schedule, a delayed delivery of a single pattern can block the entire work front.
Six plants, four brands under one roof
Grupa Końskie is not a single factory or a single brand, but a network of plants and complementary lines. Production comprises six plants — Cotto Petrus, Covent, Stargres, Ceramika Końskie, Ceramika Color and StarDust — while the commercial portfolio is made up of four brands: Ceramika Końskie, Ceramika Color, Ceramika Bianca and STARGRES. This structure makes it possible to cover different price and product segments: from wall tiles, through classic 8–10 mm porcelain stoneware, to thick slabs in 2 and 3 cm intended for terraces and driveways. That is a rarity among domestic manufacturers, who more often concentrate on a single slice of the market. The innovativeness of its facilities also earns external recognition — the StarDust plant was among those distinguished in the Diamenty Forbesa 2022 ranking for innovation in tile production.
Technology as the foundation of quality
Production is based on firing porcelain ceramic at temperatures exceeding 1,200 degrees Celsius — a process that yields a dense structure with low water absorption and high resistance to abrasion and frost. Behind the realism of patterns imitating stone, concrete or wood lie advanced digital printing techniques on the ceramic surface, and in some of the newer collections also structural printing and granilla additions, which give depth and a texture close to that of natural material. It is precisely this combination of stable colour, low water absorption and faithful reproduction of natural textures that allows the group to compete with Italian and Spanish manufacturers, who until recently held a clear advantage in this area.
Export and the management model
The group's products reach not only the Polish market but also many countries across Europe, as well as Asia and Africa; the company positions itself as the largest Polish tile exporter in its segment. It consistently communicates a management style far removed from corporate structures, based on direct contact with the customer, the supplier and the intermediary. Added to this is a declared emphasis on sustainability: some production waste returns to the process as secondary raw material, and the plants have been equipped with water treatment and dust-emission control systems — which, in the energy-intensive ceramics industry, carries both a cost and a reputational dimension.
Why the group's profile is a sales argument
For the B2B customer — architect, developer, distributor — Grupa Końskie's profile is a value in itself. A Polish manufacturer with its own technological base and a scale of 27 million m² can serve both a single residence and a large-area contract, while local production shortens the supply chain and makes reordering from the same batch easier. At a time when predictability of supply can matter as much as price, "made in Końskie" ceases to be a sentimental argument and becomes a purely operational one.
