Granaria — the SARP-awarded regeneration of Granary Island in Gdańsk

Granaria is a mixed-use complex — combining retail, residential, office and hotel functions — built on the Northern Cape of Granary Island in Gdańsk to a design by Maciej Mąka and Radosław Sojka. It belongs to an entirely different register than the 'Paryż' district near Warsaw: rather than designing from a blank slate, the task was to fit contemporary development into one of the most historically charged fragments of a Polish city.

SARP Award of the Year 2025

On 6 June 2025, at the official gala of the Association of Polish Architects (SARP), Granaria received the SARP Award of the Year 2025 in the category 'Architecture in the Space of Heritage', along with a distinction in the multi-family building category. It is one of the country's most significant industry honours — proof that the project holds up under the scrutiny of the toughest jury there is: architects themselves.

Respect for old Gdańsk

In its statement, the SARP jury praised the project's 'full respect and cultural reference to the historic architecture of old Gdańsk'. The panel commended how the studio approached the regeneration of an area shaped by time. In the jury's assessment, Granaria is not just another piece of development but a space linking a historic past with contemporary architecture and technology — one that reconciles work and leisure. As a result, the Northern Cape of Granary Island gains prominence, becoming one of Gdańsk's standout addresses.
